Myomectomy

Myomectomy (removal of fibroids)

Open myomectomy - this can be carried out through a midline or transverse bikini line incision on the abdomen. The choice of incision will depend on the size of the fibroid.

Laparoscopic myomectomy (key-hole) – this method can be used when certain criteria relating to the size, number and location of the fibroids are met.

Trans cervical resection of fibroids (minimal access surgery for removal of fibroid polyps, and submucous fibroids) - This is usually carried out through a thin telescope passed through the neck of the womb, usually under general anaesthesia.
